Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Jeff Philpott
lead a delegation of HPU administrators to Konkuk University’s
2009 i-FUN conference in Seoul, South Korea, March 25-27. HPU
was one of 40 schools worldwide to be invited to the networking
event, with received a special spot in this networking event
which included a private meeting with Konkuk University President
Dr. Myung Oh, former Deputy Prime Minister and minister of information
and science of the Republic of South Korea, also known as the
father of I.T. in Korea.
“
We were the only university at the conference to have a private
meeting with Dr. Oh,” said Philpott. “It was a real
honor for HPU.”
Philpott added that the purpose of the event was to galvanize
Konkuk University’s globalization efforts, to further solidify
relations with partner universities, including HPU, and to bring
the world’s leading globalized campus together in one conference.
“
HPU was recognized by Konkuk University for its diversity student
body and faculty, and also by its commitment to provide students
with the opportunity to study and live abroad in more than 16
countries through exchange partnerships with more than 30 partner
institutions,“ Philpott added.
Among the 40 participating institutions visiting schools, HPU
was the only University to personally meet with Dr. Oh. During
the meeting, HPU’s global citizenship practices and plans
between the two institutions for building students’ global
competence through various international collaborative programs
were discussed.
“
This will be translated in more opportunities for our students
to study in Korea,” said Philpott, who was accompanied
by Dr. Aytun Ozturk, dean of the College of business Administration,
Dr. Justin Cho, associate professor of management, and Yonghwan
Bang, associate director of International Admissions. One of
the highlights of the event was Bang’s presentation on
U.S. university perspectives on globalization in Asian higher
education sectors (China, Japan, and Korea).
Other Konkuk partner institutions attending the event included representatives
from countries such as Switzerland, UK, Australia, Japan, France, Finland, Turkey,
Indonesia, and Vietnam.
