The Sea Warriors dominated at the plate in a four-game series against the Silverswords of Chaminade University April 12-13 at Patsy Mink’s Central O‘ahu Regional Park.
On the first day, Chaminade was designated home , but HPU controlled the game. The Sea Warriors scored four runs in the first inning off a two-RBI single and two errors.
HPU scored another run in the second with Nicole Kalakau’s RBI sacrifice fly.
Melissa Harris’s RBI single put Chaminade on the board, but the Silverswords just couldn’t come back losing, 5-1.
Courtney Kessell took the win for HPU and Kasy’e Lalau took the loss for Chaminade.
In the night cap, the Sea Warriors again dominated the game scoring five runs for a 5-0, score. Sherise Musquiz took the win for HPU allowing only two hits, and Chelsi Walls took the loss for Chaminade.
On day two, the Sea Warriors were designated home, and they once again dominated both games. Musquiz (13-3) took the win in the first game for the Sea Warriors, again letting only two hits, and Walls (6-13) took the loss for the Silverswords, 3-0.
HPU showed no mercy, as they took the last game 7-0. Kessell (17-2) took another win for the Sea Warriors. Lalau (1-11) took the loss for the Silverswords.
HPU improved to 19-1 in the Pacific West Conference, underfeated locally, and 34-5 overall in the season. Chaminade dropped to 4-16 in the PacWest and 9-30 overall.
With a six-game lead over second place Dixie State, HPU once again took the PacWest title.
“ Taking the PacWest title,” explained Kessell, “took a lot of hard work and dedication from each and every player. I feel that winning the title can only help us to go farther into the season into post-play.”
The Sea Warriors went against the Vulcans of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo on April 16-17 and will then go against the Silverswords once again on April 23. HPU will end the season with a series against UH-Hilo at HPU’s softball field on April 26-27 for a four game series. First pitch is set at 1 p.m.
