New Center Student-Oriented
by Melissa Ann Gatmaitan, staff writer

The new student center on the windward campus is furnished with lounge furniture, card tables, a large-screen television, and VCR, a meeting room, four computer stations, and vending machines.

"It’s a much needed facility that will contribute to the overall experience on the windward campus," said E. Rick Stepien, vice president for administration.

The project also included an expansion of the existing Fitness Center and a complete upgrade of the equipment. "This facility increased by nearly 300 square feet, and we have ordered more than $40,000 in new weights, strength machines, and cardiovascular equipment," said Stepien.

As part of the dedication and blessing, a Pua Kinikini tree was planted next to the Student Center. It was planted there to symbolizes the continued growth of the University and the students who will grow with it.

"I think that this is a really good area for students to get together and hang out," said Katie Roberts, a Resident Advisor at the dorms. "There was a need for this. I definitely think student life will improve by just having a place where students can come together."
