The World Cafe world
Special to Kalamalama by Yvette Siew

I remember Saturday
nights when I was under 21. There was limited number of clubs that I could go to. World Café was one of those clubs.

Located at 1130 N Nimitz Highway, World Café is among the few clubs in Honolulu to cater party people aged 18-21, and over.

"This is a good place for college-type kids," said Robert Archer, a 25-year-old guy. The crowd was a good mixture of international visitors and locals in their late teens and early twenties. There were a lot of good-looking people he added and continued: "There’s also plenty of room to roam about," He was right.

I found it a vast improvement over the cramped spaces at Waikiki clubs. The club is very spacious. There is a large dance floor and a bar on the first floor.Bright colorful lights from the dance floor bounce off the walls, making the atmosphere very festive.

High tables and chairs line the walls and give people a chance to just sit and rest after dancing. There is also a seating section adjoining the bar area.

Drinks are surprisingly cheap. Specials are available every night, and regular prices are $3 to $6. "It’s a great deal. With the drink specials you can get sloshed for about $20!" joked Rick Rock, the club emcee.

The deejay spins a wide selection of music that would appeal to any audience, including house, hip hop, rap, reggae, rhythm and blues, and booty. "It’s good music," said Cindy and Jessie, two girls from Pearl City.

Stairs on either side of the club lead to the second floor. An enclosed room overlooking the dance floor plays techno and house music. The room also has a bar. Another section of the second floor houses a different bar and some pool tables with a mini dance floor over to the side.

World Café is definitely one of the best clubs around.
