Some of the many new entries this year included the Honolulu
Mounted police unit, the U.S.S. Missouri battleship, the Baton
Twirlers of the United States, Free Vietnam Veterans, Pinky’s
Bar and Grill, PFLAG Oahu, Families Improving Education, Sunshine
School, Windward Y Moms, Daughters of the Nile, Hawai‘i Equestrian
and Trail Association, Swingin’ Tradewinds Jass Band, Foodland
Super Market, Windward Episcopalians, Oahu Community Recycling,
and BookEnds.
Compared to last year, 20 more units participated in this
year’s parade, and spectators agreed that the caliber, variety
and enthusiasm of this year’s participants were unparalleled.
Festivities continued after the parade with most Kailuans
venturing to the beach for the afternoon and then returning
at dusk to watch the Airshow which featured two windward residents:
Hank Bruckner and Clint Churchill. The day was topped off
with an exciting fireworks display produced by Hawai‘i Explosives
and Pyrotechnics.
Sponsors for this year’s event were Ameron, Foodland, Hardware
Hawai‘i, Kaneohe Ranch, McKenna Windward Motorcars, and Papa
John’s Pizza.
Parade Chairman Al Schafer extended his thanks to all committee
members and participants for making the parade a huge success,
and congratulated the following organizations for being named
the best entries of this year’s parade:
