Cheerleading get
new coach and 11 new freshmen
They run at dawn three times a week. They lift
weights. They will have scheduled team-study sessions for
anyone below a 2.75 GPA when only 2.0 is required. After all
that, they practice many hours per week striving for perfection
in their sport.

Out of Bounds: Sports
guys also cry, sometimes
I’m a sports guy. Our idea of a good time is
watching two teams of heavily armored gladiators pound one
another every weekend. We nearly swoon when Mark McGwire launches
a baseball deep into the upper-deck seats. Good theatre? We’d
recommend “Rocky” and “Rocky II,” “Bang the Drum Slowly,”
and more recently, “Remember the Titans.” Our concept of gourmet
cuisine is a Dodger Dog, a cold beer, and a cigar for dessert.

Cross-country
team picks up pace ... again
For most athletes, making it to nationals is a
lifelong dream. Yet, to the men and women of the HPU’s cross-country
team, it’s all in a season’s work. And with the turn of a new
season the team has begun work once again, winning first, second,
and third place in the women’s division at the Chaminade Invitational
held at Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i in Laie on Sept. 9.
