The Computer Club remained highly active during
the summer with one special interest group building a 1 MHz
CPU and another developing a Robotics demonstration for the
Sign Language Festival at Kapiolani Community College Aug.
11.
Jadranko Brkic, robotics special interest group
leader, reported that the club’s “participation in the Sign
Language Festival was a success.” People enjoyed playing with
the robots, Brkic said, “especially the Reflex Tester. They
kept coming back for more.”
Brkic also reported that there were probably
about 300 deaf person at the festival, and that most were
from O‘ahu. “We even learned some sign language phrases,”
he said as he thanked all who helped produce the club. “It
is so reassuring and easy to do things when you know that
there are some special people who do care.”
Former SIG Robotics Faculty Advisor, retired
HPU Instructor Victor Meyers, assisted in coordinating the
Sign Language Festival effort.
The Computer Club will continue its Saturday
noon meetings this fall at Kukui Plaza (KK) 3, in preparation
for its first Maze Robotics’ Competition against the University
of Hawai‘i-Manoa’s School of Engineering. All are welcome,
especially those interested in Linux, Security, Web Development,
Hardware, and Networking.
