Hula Festival celebrates Hawai'i's culture

.The sun was at its peak. The mountain breeze slowly swayed the branches of the mango trees. The colorful hula dancers swung their hips and arms to the rhythm of the ipu and the traditional Hawaiian chants. Nine hula halaus offered a magical experience when the Moanalua Gardens Foundation presented the annual Prince Lot Hula Festival on July 20.

   

Art credit for HPU students

Express your artistic side and earn credits toward your degree at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, which offers a wide range of 14-week art classes, each of which earns stduents two academic credits from HPU.

   

Exciting exhibitions: An Academy Calendar

The Honolulu Academy of Arts celebrates 75 years of fine art this year, and in celebration, during the whole anniversary year, the museum is free to the public on the first Sunday and first Wednesday of every month.
   

Chun & Moriaz Open HPU Art Gallery Season

The works of well-known local artists Peggy Chun and Bernard Moriaz are currently on display, through Sept. 27, at the HPU Art Gallery located on HPU’s Hawai‘i Loa campus.
   

Royal Tennenbaums good viewing choice

The Royal Tennenbaums, a film directed Wes Anderson, is a dark, tragic comedy about a textbook dysfunctional family of geniuses and their “unexpected reunion one recent winter.” A brilliantly clever script and an all-star cast make it a must see.
