Beauty pageants - Scholarship $ and positive experience

Beauty pageants get a bad rap! People complain that they “exploit” women or show that women are valued more for their beauty than their brains. Visions of “Miss Congeniality” run amuck.

   

Remembered Sept. 11 must go beyond 'War on Terror'

It has been a year since the tragedies of New York City and Washington, D.C., brutally reminded Americans just how dangerous a place the world has become. It has been said that after Sept. 11, everything changed.

   

'Under God' misunderstood

When I was a little girl, some days, I just did not feel like standing up and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

   

Liberty and justice under Who?

The recent decision of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to determine unconstitutional the inclusion of the words, “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance has ignited a heated debate in this country over possible implications and ramifications.

 

Intercultural Day under enrolled

Intercultural Day: a time for the many cultures of our school to spread their wings and show their colors proudly. Yet, only 20 of the more than 80 different countries represented at HPU had booths at the event. Of the four neighbors of the United States— Mexico, Canada, Russia, and Cuba, only one was there—Russia.
