Letters to the Editor
“Israelis and Palestinians”
I would like to thank you for the job very well done. I appreciated your article, especially since it shed light on the history of the Israel/Palestine conflict during the last 100 years. (Kalamalama 4-15-2002)
I’d like to point out that in the second column (2nd paragraph) of your article, you wrote:
“They proclaimed Muhammad ascended to heaven from this location and built the al Aqsa mosque to commemorate the event, on the area that had historically been regarded as location of the Jewish temple.”
Allah (God) in the Holy Qur’an says:
“He Who took His servant (Muhammad) for a journey by night from Al Masjid Al Haram (at Mecca) to the al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem), the neighborhood where of We have blessed, in order that We might show him some of Our signs. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.” (17:1)
This verse reveals that the al Aqsa mosque already existed at that time. We, Muslims, believe that the Prophet Muhammad was taken by night from Mecca all the way to al Aqsa mosque, where he led all other prophets in prayers and then ascended to Heaven.
I just wanted to note this small mistake in your article, which is outweighed by the marvelous job you did writing this article. If you would like to know more about the history of Al Aqsa Mosque, you can visit
Thank you again for the article.

Sincerely, Mohamed Kambal
