Student - friendly movie theatre prices
by Cari Aguilar, Student Life editor

Would you rather go to the movies tonight or buy a few days worth of groceries? This is one choice that you wish you didn’t have to make, but the cost of a movie ticket and snacks can make a big dent in a budget. Catching a movie, however, can be cost-efficient and convenient if you plan ahead.

Many theaters are only a short bus ride away from HPU campuses, and matinee ticket prices save about 50 percent. Downtown Ward Stadium 16 This theater is part of the Ward Centre entertainment complex that houses Dave and Buster’s and several other restaurants and shops. It has 16 screens, surround sound, and stadium seating. There is an arcade located off the lobby area. Soft drinks are self-serve, so refills are convenient. One popcorn refill is also available with the purchase of a medium-size container. General admission is $8. For the $5 matinee price, see a movie before 4 p.m.

593-3000 Dole Cannery This theater in Iwilei has 18 screens, all digital sound, and stadium seating. While you wait for the show to start, check out the arcade or visit the ice cream counter. On Tuesdays, hot dogs are only $1. A large popcorn and a drink at the concession stand costs $8, with refills available for both. General admission is $7.75. For the $5 matinee price, see a movie before 6 p.m. Mon.-Fri., and before 4 p.m. Sat., Sun., and holidays.

526-3456 Restaurant Row 9 Known as the Art House at Restaurant Row, this is the place to see independent and foreign films that are not in wide release. One popcorn refill is available with the purchase of a large container. The student rate is $5 with valid I.D. Matinees are $4.50 before 6 p.m. daily. On “Bargain Tuesday” tickets are $4.50 all day except restricted feature films.

526-4171 Windward Windward Stadium 10 Ten theaters, Dolby Digital Surround Sound, an arcade, and stadium seating are at Windward Mall. The concession stand features Ben &Jerry’s Ice Cream. Take advantage of the $5 admission before 6 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 4 p.m. Sat., Sun., and holidays.
