HPU wins Pac-West opener

HPU women’s volleyball team opened up PacWest Conference play Sept. 14 sweeping by Western New Mexico State in three sets, 30-17, 30-27, 30-21, at the James C. Castle Gymnasium at St. Andrew’s Priory.

HPU improved its mark on the season to 6-3. Suzy Garbelotti, HPU’s senior middle blocker, continued her dominating ways registering a match-high 19 kills, eight digs, and three of the teams 12 service aces.

Chipping in was outside hitter Sandra Brunke, who had three aces to accompany her career-best 15 kills. Vera Oliveira dished out 40 assists and had eight kills in the win. HPU hit .302 while WNMU hit .265. This was the Lady Sea Warriors first three game sweep of the season.

Lady Sea Warriors beat Montana State Billings The HPU women's volleyball team moved to 2-0 in PacWest play after defeating Montana State 30-19, 30-25, 24-30, 30-21 at the James C. Castle Gymnasium at St. Andrews Priory on Sept. 16.

The Lady Sea Warriors, 7-3 on the season, had 25 kills from Senior middle bocker Susy Garbelotti, four short of her career high. Garbelotti added nine digs, six blocks, two assists, and one service ace as she shared PacWest Co-Players of the Week honors with Hawai‘i Hilo's Sara Pilgreen. Garboletti currently ranks in the top 10 in the PacWest for hitting percentage (10th-.291), kills (1st-5.39/game), service aces (2nd-.61/game), and digs (10th-2.72/game).

Vera Lucia Oliveira had 43 assists, seven kills and nine digs, while teammate Sandra Brunke contributed 10 kills, eight digs, two blocks, two assists, and a string of three service aces in the win.

Olivia Munro led Montana State with 19 kills and added 12 digs.

The Lasy Sea Warriors outhit MSUB .200 to .107.
