Faculty, staff, students got dunked

by Allen Artiss, staff writer

On Nov. 15, some HPU faculty, staff, and students were dunked. But it was all for a good cause.

The call went out for faculty and staff to volunteer themselves, or be nominated, to sit in the booth and get wet. “There were pretty good shooters around here and the water was cold,” said Reverend Burke who was dunked numerous times.

Student Life erected a booth on Fort Street Mall where students voted for the nominee they wanted to see get dunked. The top three nominees in each group, in addition to those who volunteered, were dunked. Each participant received an HPU logo towel.

The event, sponsored by ASHPU and Student Life, was part of HPU’s regular TGIF schedule of activities. It was also a fundraiser for ASHPU’s leadership conference in Pomona, Calif.

The fun started at noon, and went on until 4 p.m.

Heather Hubbard, director of Student Life, said several faculty members volunteered, including Ashley Edwards, head cheer coach, Russell Dung, HPU athletic director, and Dr. Andrew Brittain, head of the biology department.

Hubbard said the first definite participants were Justin Spanko, special activities coordinator, Liz Tiglao, Student Life’s associate director and Hubbard herself.

“Just to be sure there’s a turnout,” Hubbard said, “I volunteered my whole staff.”
