Get ready to experience Christmas from all corners of the globe as Hawai‘i Pacific University presents “Christmas Around the World,” a holiday concert presented by HPU’s International Chorale & Vocal Ensemble on Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Kawaiaha‘o Church, 957 Punchbowl St. The event is free and open to the public.

The International Chorale made up of HPU students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members will sing holiday music from Austria, Latvia, North America including early American and Black Gospel, Spain, Argentina, South Africa, Korea, China, Puerto Rico, Hawai‘i, and Great Britain together with the Vocal Ensemble, made up of select HPU students.

The program will be directed by Susan M. Duprey, director of HPU Choral Activities, and accompanied by Herb Mahelona. Special guests include the Na Leo Kuho‘okahi ensemble, from the Hawai‘i Youth Opera Chorus, and various artists such as Fred Li, soprano sax; Lynn Muramaru, flute; Winston Tan, guitar; and Sango, percussion.

Created this year, the HPU’s Choral Program, comprised of the International Chorale and the International Vocal Ensemble, is Hawai‘i’s first program specializing in ethnic choral literature. Vocal performances, serve as an outreach to the broader community and showcase the talents of HPU’s diverse student body.
