Books to read while in college

Mark Twain once said, “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.” So, what are good books? Here are the answers from HPU instructors from various departments.

   

Cultural decline can be reversed

Temuera Morrison, one of the stars of New Zealand’s 1994, the multi-award-winning film Once Were Warriors, believes that, culturally, Hawai‘i is heading for the same fate as the Maori culture of New Zealand.

   

Guting the Fifth: Island electorate surrenders rights

The people of Hawai‘i lost their right to them on Nov. 5. Elimination of the jury indictment or judicial arraignment stage of state criminal proceedings in Hawaii received a majority vote in the general election.

   

BOE showed good judgement keeping P.E.

The idea—cutting the P.E. requirement here in Hawai‘i, where more than 26 percent of children and teenagers are obese—seems ridiculous now as we look back on it.
