Trustees recently elected Dr. Allen Louis Zecha to the University’s
governing board. Zecha is a retired vice president of Union
Carbide Japan and served on several Union Carbide joint-venture
boards in Japan and Southeast Asia. At Union Carbide, his experiences
included marketing and sales of industrial and consumer products
including pharmaceuticals. Also, he has served as president
of Medtronic Asia-Pacific. During his career he has worked and
lived in India, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and
the United States.

A Dutch citizen, Zecha was born in Java, Indonesia. He received
a Bachelor of Science degree from Dickinson College, a master’s
degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a
Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford University. “Dr. Zecha’s vast
global business and academic background will be a great asset
to Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Board of Trustees,” said HPU
Board Chairman William E. Aull.
“Dr. Zecha’s knowledge of Asia and his many contacts there
will greatly assist us with our educational and academic endeavors
in that region.” Dr. Zecha welcomed “the opportunity to be a
productive member of Hawai‘i Pacific University’s governing
board. “I look forward to helping HPU continue its dynamic development
over the next decade,” he said.
