On the next defensive series, HPU Center Leandro Maruoka went
up and stole the ball before the Seasiders could get off a shot.
BYU-H had a chance to win the game in regulation but fumbled
the ball out of bounds as time expired.
“All our guards can shoot at any time, we don’t have a guy
who can step up at any time like BYU-H, but Walters came through
and hit the shot for us,” said HPU Head Coach Russell Dung.
The Seasiders scored the first six points in overtime to open
up a 64-58 lead. HPU pulled to within four, 61-65, with 1:44
left in the game, when Leandro Maruoka converted a three point
play after he was fouled on a two point shot.
That would be the closest HPU would get as BYU-H went on a
6-0 run to end the game.
BYU-H got off to a fast start by jumping out to a quick 13-0
lead, on the hot shooting of Foyle who accounting for six of
the 13.
Foyle ended the game with a game-high 28 points on 12-30 from
the field. Foyle’s scored 18 of his points in the first half.
“Their coach helped me out, by leaving Foyle on the bench most
of the second half,” said Dung.
Forward Scott Salisbury helped out Foyle in the winning cause
by chipping in 16 points. HPU was led by Abrams, who had a team-high
19 points, and Maruoka who recorded a double-double with a game-high
16 rebounds and 13 points.
Walters and Marvin Noble also hit double digits for the Sea
Warriors getting 10 and 11 apiece. “Don’t ask me why we always
get down early, it’s just one of those things,” said Dung. “We
did fight back and take it into overtime.”
