Dp you have PAL
appeal?
by Mary Landolt, Center for English Language Programs
|
Are you a friendly native English speaker or international
student who has been here a while? Are you studying TESL? Are
you majoring in some other kind of international studies programs?
Are you interested in other cultures?
Every semester at HPU the English Foundations Program has students
from more than 20 different countries studying English at four
different levels in preparation for undergraduate and graduate
degree programs. It also has a PAL program that helps students
who are interested in other cultures connect with classmates. |
|
| |
| The international PAL
program was formed last fall for American and international students
who were interested in helping new students in the English Language
Programs adjust to HPU and Hawai‘i. |
| |
| This semester, fall 2003,
the Pals are applying to become an HPU club registered as the
International Pal Association (IPA). They are also planning to
have more fun activities, and they will have a dynamic new co-advisor,
Barbara Hannum, assistant professor of English (ESL). A specialist
will also lead a workshop to help enhance cross-cultural awareness
and sensitivity. |
| |
| PAL would like a core
group who could be available to help new students arriving in
late August. To sign up to be a Pal contact Mary Landolt at mlandolt@hpu.edu
or stopp by her office, MP 130. |
