HPU hosts S. Korean university delegation

by Kalamalama staff

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Center for Graduate Studies and College of Business Administration recently hosted a visiting student delegation from South Korea’s KDI School of Public Policy and Management. The students were in Hawai‘i to attend a lecture on electronic commerce presented by HPU professors Dr. Joseph Ha and Dr. Yooncheong Cho.

HPU also arranged for the student group to meet with key government and business leaders here in Hawai‘i. They met with Manny Menendez, director of Business and Economic Development for the City and County of Honolulu; Jim Tollefson, president of the Hawai‘i Chamber of Commerce; and Mike O’Neill, chairman, CEO, and president of Bank of Hawai‘i.

The School of Public Policy and Management, affiliated with the Korea Development Institute (KDI), is an autonomous, policy-oriented research organization and was founded in 1971. KDI was established by the Korean government in Seoul as an economic think tank to provide academic perspective on economic policy issues.

Earlier this year, HPU signed a cooperation agreement with KDI’s School of Public Policy and Management. The agreement allows Korean students to enroll in HPU’s Master of Business Administration program. KDI students are managers from within the South Korean government or from various private corporations.
