Historians visit HPU

 

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s College of Liberal Arts recently hosted two community lectures on military affairs and American history. The lecture series was partially supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Renowned military historian, Dr. Jeremy Black, presented a lecture entitled, “Warfare in the Twentieth Century” on September 2 in Warmer Auditorium. Dr. Black is a professor of history at Exeter University in England. He is also the author of more than 50 books and publications.

Earlier on August 14, Dr. Richard McCaslin, professor of history at High Point University, and noted expert on American history, lectured on the influence of George Washington on Robert E. Lee’s life. Dr. McCaslin’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated book, entitled Robert E. Lee: In the Shadow of Washington, received the Slatten Award given by the Virginia Historical Society. Dr. McCaslin is also working on four additional books about the Civil War.
