It is with a sense of
heart-felt loss that we at Hawai‘i Pacific University
mourn the passing of our colleague Dr. Randy Hayashi, a chemistry
instructor with
HPU for the last several years. We will miss him and his patient
deliberate approach to teaching chemistry.
Many of Randy’s current and former student have expressed
their sense of loss, invariably commenting on his teaching style
and his ability to make chemistry understandable. They remember
his incredible patience and his willingness to spend hours indiscussions
until concepts were understood.
The laboratory staff will remember Randy for his entertaining
stories, from growing up in Hilo to his graduate and professional
career on the mainland. We will miss Randy Hayashi and offer
our sympathy to his family. As his sister, Christine, said of
him, “The quiet ones are the ones who change the universe.”
