HPU baseball hosts fundraiser

by Derek Clarkston, Sports editor

The HPU baseball team won’t be taking the field anytime soon, but they will be hitting a grand slam on Oct. 25 as the Sea Warriors host its first Grand Slam Jam team benefit at the Beach House at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

The festivities will start at 5 p.m. with lots of live entertainment to keep everyone from heading home early. Local artists include The Makaha Sons of Ni‘ihau, Sistah Robi, Sean Naauao, Maunalua, Raiatea, Ten Feet, Pati, and Milo Shade.

Along with the entertainment their will be food booths, prizes, and giveaways including an interisland trip.

“ The baseball team is putting on the fundraiser to help build interest in the baseball program and to raise money for the team,” said Jarnett Lono, HPU’s sports information director.

Lono is also hoping that the fundraiser will raise enough money to get more home games at Aloha Stadium, since HPU is the only college that does play baseball there.

Presale tickets are $15 and may be purchased through the athletics department, Penthouse, Library Building at 1069 Bishop St. Tickets at the door will be $20.

For more information contact the athletics department at 544-0221.

You must be 21 or older to attend.
