HawaiiHealthGuide.com, a local web-based organization that provides information on personal, community, and environmental health, recently launched a new statewide, online health events calendar and invited local organizations, residents, and visitors to add their events and to view the new community health calendar at: www.HawaiiHealthGuide.com/events.

“ This is a great way to announce, promote, and increase attendance of your upcoming events,” said Katherine Fisher, cofounder of HawaiiHealthGuide.com. “Visitors and residents with computer access have the opportunity to plan ahead and learn about upcoming health events, workshops and classes, sports competitions, community meetings, and cultural events in a timely fashion.”

Calendar categories include: Arts and Theatre, Classes and Lectures, Community Meetings, Cultural and Ethnic, Dance and Movement, Entertainment and Music, Environment, Family, Food, Health and Wellness, Spiritual, Sports and Fitness, and Unique and Special Events. The calendar can be searched by Key word, Date, Category, and Island. A “Save Event” itinerary feature allows users to collect a group of events for printing.

The Events Calendar includes a listing of recurring events such as weekly classes, monthly meetings, yearly athletic and cultural events.

The goal of the calendar, according to Michael Saiz, cofounder of HawaiiHealthGuide.com, is to support Hawai‘i’s health organizations by providing a clear and easy guide for residents and visitors, available around the clock and around the world.

“ It is easy to submit your events online, and individuals and organizations submitting multiple events may register to edit and manage their own events,” said Saiz. “Events may also be included in the Monthly Featured Events section of the calendar home page.”

Frequent contributors can request passwords and permissions to directly access and make changes to their events, Saiz added.

Funding for the calendar was provided in part by grants from the Hawai‘i Tourist Authority, through the Kaua‘i and O‘ahu offices of Economic Development, with matching grants from HawaiiHealthGuide.com, Wasabi Design Inc., and Guide.Net, Inc.
