HPU cheerleading teams placed first in their
division for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) qualifying
skills tape, making both teams top contenders in the upcoming
national championship.
The 2003 National Champion HPU Co-ed Cheerleading Team, and
the All-Girls Cheerleading Team will be competing among hundreds
of the world’s best college cheerleaders vying for a national
title April 2 and 3 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Teams become eligible
for this competition based on qualification at a NCA Summer Camp,
a regional competition, or through video. |

HPU’s co-ed cheerleading team has received
first place in the video bid for three years straight. The
team, which scored 9.95 out of a possible 10 in the qualifying
video bid, is comprised of male and female athletes highly
skilled in gymnastics and partner stunting. The All-Girl Cheerleading
Team scored 9.28 out of a possible 10. The squad, which has
24 members, is the only All-Girl college cheer team in Hawai‘i.
The Cheer Collegiate Championship is the largest event sponsored
by the NCA. With teams from across the United States, Mexico,
Japan, and Canada, it is the most widely viewed college cheer
event in the history of collegiate spirit competitions. |
