Business as usual:
A new spirit in Kaimuki
The scent of incense fills the air, and dozens
of soft wind chimes can be heard, their sounds muted by the
rooms in maroon and cream drapery. Two walls of windows are
spanned by rows and rows of glass jars carefully labeled with
the name and use of the herbs it contains. Opposite the window
corner are two chairs and a coffee table with a small porcelain
lamp that illuminates a crystal on top of a tarot deck.

Aloha
from the President
Welcome back, or—for our new students—welcome
to Hawai‘i Pacific University. New or continuing, you
have probably discovered HPU’s diversity. On our campuses,
students from more than 100 countries and different ethnic
groups socialize freely. One of the opportunities you have
at HPU, which may not be available at mainland universities,
is to relate to your peers from other cultures on a daily
basis. You have a chance to develop the ability to work together
across cultural lines. This will prove valuable not only
while you are students here, but also in your personal and
professional lives.

Chaplain's
Corner
Welcome new students, and welcome back all of
you who are returning for another semester at HPU! The opportunities
before us this term are endless, and in this issue I want to
encourage and inspire everyone to do two things: 1. Get involved.
2. Stay in touch.
