Dr. Mary Sheridan, professor of social
work in the College of Liberal Arts at Hawai‘i Pacific
University, was named Outstanding Woman Leader of the Year
in the private sector category by the Organization of Women
Leaders.
“Mary was selected for her contribution to the organization,
excellence in her field, and service to the community. She has
served as the organization’s corresponding secretary for
the last several years and will continue in this role next year,” said
Pearl Imada Iboshi, president of the organization. “She
is a nationally recognized expert in her field and a superior
teacher as evidenced by the award she received this year from
HPU for teaching excellence.” |

Dr. Sheridan has taught at HPU since 1978, and was instrumental
in the establishment of a Bachelor of Social Work degree program
at HPU. In addition to receiving the HPU Award for Teaching
Excellence earlier this year, Dr. Sheridan was also named Social
Worker of the Year in Professional Education and Training for
2003 by the National Association of Social Work, Hawai‘i
Chapter.
The Organization of Women Leaders is a group of women executives
from a spectrum of Hawai‘i’s businesses and government
agencies. Established in 1984, the organization’s mission
is to develop a network of contact among women in decision-making
positions in the private and public sectors to promote greater
job effectiveness and professional advancement.
