After a disappointing 0-7 start
for the HPU men’s basketball team, the tables seem to
be turning as the Sea Warriors now stand at 5-9 with a 2-1
record in the PacWest Conference.
HPU picked up its first win of the season Dec. 16 in an 83-65
win over Notre Dame de Namur University at Mid-Pacific Institute.
Senior guard Aaron Abrams led all scorers with 29 points for
HPU and registered an impressive double-double performance with
13 rebounds. Sophomore Audrius Peciukas, a newcomer to HPU from
Lithuania, was also a factor with a double-double of his own
(17 points, 16 rebounds) to go along with six blocks.
Next up for the Sea Warriors was heartbreaking 76-73 loss to
Alaska-Anchorage University at McCabe Gym at Chaminade University
Dec. 18. With the game tied at 73 apiece, Alaska-Anchorage’s
Peter Bullock got hold of a loose ball and was able to get a
layup and the foul with 1.5 seconds left for the win. Abrams
and senior guard Marvin Noble led HPU with 20 points each while
junior guard Dante Sykes added 14 points and six rebounds.
HPU chalked up its second victory of the season with a decisive
81-68 win over Doane College at Mid-Pac Dec. 28. Noble who
led all scorers, was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free
on his way to 23 points. Senior guard Albert Tecul poured in
15 points and Peciukas pulled in a team-high 10 rebounds in

Southwestern College Dec. 30 at Mid-Pac on a game-winning
jumper by Abrams
with three seconds on the clock. Abrams ended the game with
11 points, but it was Tecul who led HPU with a game-high
including 3-for-3 from three-point-range.
