While the album does a good job at chronicling
Crow’s musical achievements, some fans feel it leaves
out a few essential hits, such as “It Don’t Hurt” and “Anything
But Down,” both of which tell the story of failed relationships.
Overall the album has received positive reviews from fans and
critics alike and, after only 11 weeks on the chart, is currently
ranked No. 2 on Billboard’s top 200 albums and No. 6 on
Billboard’s top Internet album sales.
Crow’s first single, “All I Wanna Do,” was
big on the music charts back in 1994 and prompted some music
critics who expected her to become a one-hit wonder to write
that the song was “all she was ever gonna do.” Ten
years later, Crow has a number of hits under her belt as well
as two Grammy Awards, one for Best New Album in 1995 for her
debut album Tuesday Night Music Club and another in 1997 for
Best Rock Album for her self-titled release.
While Crow has enjoyed a successful career, she has not avoided
controversy. Back in 1996, Wal-Mart banned her second album from
its shelves due to the song “Love is a Good Thing,” in
which she sings about Wal-Mart selling guns to children. This
is a touchy subject for Wal-Mart, since they have been sued for
selling guns and ammunition to minors.
In 2002, Crow chose Hawai‘i as the location for the filming
of her music video for “Soak up the Sun.” The video
was primarily shot at Sunset Beach and Sacred Falls and featured
a few HPU students as extras.
To date, Crow has six albums to her credit, including Tuesday
Night Music Club, Sheryl Crow, The Globe Sessions, Sheryl Crow
and Friends Live from Central Park, C’mon C’mon,
and The Very Best of Sheryl Crow.
