Some of the livelier booths were the Hawaii College Democrats
(they were loud) and the Environmental Club (they were crowded).
Many of the booths had colorful displays of photographs from
past activities, giving potential members a glimpse into what
the group had to offer. Games were played at the stage, and
a pep rally began at 12:45 p.m., featuring performances by
HPU’s dance group, band and cheerleaders.
The sounds of Hawaiian music filled the mall beginning at 1
p.m. with performances by Herb Ohta, Jr. and Keoki Kahumoku.
Each is a talented musician in his own right. Ohta is best
known for playing the ‘ukulele, and Kahumoku is an accomplished
slack-key guitarist. Together, they are best known for their
albums “Hawaiian from the Heart” and “Treasures
of Aloha.” Ohta and Kahumoku have played at HPU numerous
times at Music on the Mall events.
If you missed your chance to sign up for an HPU club, you can
