“He’s kind of a ‘Joe
Cool’ character,” said Head Cheerleading Coach
Ashley Edwards. “We needed a mascot that kids would enjoy
and have fun with . . . we’re even thinking about adding
a female version of Sharky in the future.”
The idea of using a shark to represent the Sea Warriors came
after Liz Tiglao, the associate director for the Office of Student
Life, organized a committee of faculty and staff to come up with
ideas and suggestions. A drawing competition was held last spring
and the winning submission depicted a shark on a surf board.
“
Students interested in applying should have a sense of fun and
enjoy performing in front of large crowds,” said Edwards. “It’s
a great way for students to get involved with the University
and have fun.”
A scholarship is available, but the amount is unknown at
this time as the mascot program is still under development,
Edwards
added.
