All eyes were riveted to the screen. Hands covered mouths in disbelief or to hide silent screams. Some cowered in their seats while others clutched their partners in empathetic agony. Not a single eye was dry.

   

Tower of Power brings funk back to the islands

“We’ve been gettin’ funky for about 36 years now,” said Tower of Power band leader/saxophonist Emilio Castillo. “And ain’t nothin’ changed; we are a soul band, and we play soul music, period.”

   

HPU Theatre Presents Jacques Brel

On March 12, the songs of Jacques Brel will hit the HPU stage, when HPU Theatre presents, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.

   

Kumu Kahua Premieres Fanny and Belle (Stevenson)

It was a time when women had very little influence in the world. A time when women were expected to just take care of their husband and children. Divorce was unheard of, and women in unhappy marriages were forced to stay in them or ruin their reputation and their family’s. Not Fanny Stevenson or her daughter Belle Osbourne as we see in Kumu Kahua’s world premiere of the play Fanny and Belle: The Story of Robert Louis Stevenson and Her Daughter Belle Osbourne. They break all the rules.
