Chaplain's Corner
with Reverend Dale Burke

You’ve seen him on TV! He’s the guy at all the sporting events popping up at the most dramatic moments with his trademark wig--a multi-colored afro--and sign: “John 3:16.” His name is Rollen Stewart, a.k.a “Rainbow Man,” and he abandoned his home and marriage to live out of his car in a never-ending quest to stay televised with his message proclaiming his new found faith. He’s said he’s attended more than 1000 events.

We don’t see him anymore. He’s in prison. He made some bad decisions, but the message of his sign lives on. “John 3:16” is a verse from the Bible that sums up the entire Christian faith: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life”.

College marketing professors might disagree with Stewart’s techniques but his antics have left an indelible mark on many of us. Who knows how many hurting lives might have been touched by that simple sign in the middle of a ball game!

“ John 3:16” continues to give hope today. It is the reason why Good Friday comes up in a few short weeks. It’s the reason behind Easter, three days later. God’s great love will not give up on us, and He seeks us daily. That’s pretty good news to tell the world even if it is couched in a rainbow afro and a sign!

Don’t miss Chapel, Wed. noon and Sunday 7:30 p.m.
