HPU cheerleaders, dance team champs

by Kalamalama staff

HPU took two national titles and national runner-up honor at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Chick-fil-A Collegiate Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 1.

The HPU teams made history twice, first when the Co-ed Cheerleaders captured the national title for the second year in a row and again when the Dance Team became the first Hawai‘i dance team to ever capture a national collegiate title at the NCA event.

Also performing well was the HPU All-Girl Cheerleading Team that, competing for the first time, placed second in the nation in their category. The All-Girl Cheerleading Team is the only All-Girl college cheer team in Hawai‘i.

The Chick-fil-A Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship is the largest event of its kind in the world. With teams from across the United States, Mexico, Japan, and Canada, it is the most widely viewed college cheer and dance event in the history of the collegiate spirit competitions.
