HPU cheerleaders, dance team champs

HPU took two national titles and national runner-up honor at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Chick-fil-A Collegiate Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 1.

   

Helen Varner gets IABC Lifetime Achievement Award

The International Association of Business Communicators Hawai‘i Chapter honored Dr. Helen Varner, dean of the College of Communication at HPU, with a Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual Ilima Awards dinner April 8 at the Hale Koa Hotel. Varner is only the second person to receive this significant honor from the Hawai‘i professional chapter of IABC in 34 years since the chapter’s founding. The award recognizes an individual in Hawai‘i who has served as a role model and has demonstrated sustained leadership, initiative, and commitment to the field of communication by actively supporting the development of the profession and communication professionals.

   

SIFE wins regionals

The HPU Students in Free Enterprise Team will be one of more than 180 SIFE Teams from across the nation competing at the 2004 SIFE USA National Exposition hosted by the Kansas City Business Community, May 23-25. The winning team in the four-year college division will move on to represent the United States at SIFE World Cup 2004 in Barcelona, Spain, competing against national champions from more than 25 countries.
