Mitts works with the elegant forms of neutral-colored bamboo,
and through alternative processing of photographs, achieves
prints that no longer look like photographs but something other.
These “other” prints no longer document the reality
of the tree, but rather the possibilities of an “other” bamboo,
a bamboo that is radiantly colored.
Newton works with everyday materials—those found at the
hardware store or discount retailer—and transforms these
pre-formed items from their ordinary use to sculptural works
of grace and charm, far removed from the original purpose of
the material.
Jeon’s work explores the intersection of experience and
memory. She uses digital photography and video stills in the
process of creating digital print collages that no longer resemble
that which was originally photographed.
The HPU Art Gallery is located on HPU’s windward campus,
