New assistant dean for HPU Military Campuses

Dr. Phil Mendel, an HPU adjunct faculty member at Kane‘ohe Marine Corps Base, was hired in July for the recently created position of assistant dean-academics with the HPU Military Campus Program.

Since joining the Military Campus Program at HPU, Mendel has been working with program representatives at the six military installation offices as well as faculty who teach classes on the bases, and he has himself taught writing, computer science, and human resource management classes at Kane‘ohe, Hickam, and Pearl Harbor.

Mendel earned his doctorate from the University of Oregon in educational policy and management, with an emphasis in educational program evaluation. Before moving to O‘ahu, he worked as the Educational Programs Evaluator in the Federal Programs Office for the Guam Department of Education.

In Hawai‘i, he worked as the computer trainer for the 14th Coast Guard District and provided training to more than 1,400 active duty personnel, civilian employees, and reservists throughout the district, including Hawai‘i, Guam, Saipan, and Japan.
