| Dr. Phil Mendel, an HPU adjunct faculty member at Kane‘ohe
Marine Corps Base, was hired in July for the recently created
position of assistant dean-academics with the HPU Military
Campus Program.
Since joining the Military Campus Program at HPU, Mendel has
been working with program representatives at the six military
installation offices as well as faculty
who teach classes on the bases, and he has himself taught writing, computer
science, and human resource management classes at Kane‘ohe,
Hickam, and Pearl Harbor.
Mendel earned his doctorate from the University of Oregon in
educational policy and management, with an emphasis in educational
program evaluation. Before
moving to O‘ahu, he worked as the Educational Programs Evaluator in the
Federal Programs Office for the Guam Department of Education.
In Hawai‘i, he worked as the computer trainer for the 14th Coast Guard
District and provided training to more than 1,400 active duty personnel, civilian
employees, and reservists throughout the district, including Hawai‘i,
Guam, Saipan, and Japan. |
