Rai, with his five years experience in online
advertising and E-commerce, developed the site after numerous
suggestions
from HPU alumni. “Most HPU alumni were saying that once
we graduated from HPU there was no other way to communicate with
each other,” Rai said. Hence eFortStreet.com was born.
Named after down- town’s historic mall, and home of the
downtown HPU campus, eFortStreet gets about 500 hits a day, according
to Rai. With the site’s “top notch” forum capabilities,
Rai said managing the site requires him to “stay on his
toes,” but he is being helped by a team of volunteer
HPU students and alumni who have taken on administrative roles
by
acting as moderators and monitors.
According to Rai, HPU students can log on and participate in
discussion boards on various topics. The site’s technology
can accommodate several hundred thousand users, Rai said, adding: “There
is also a feature where password-protected private clubs and
discussions can be held.”
Rai said the idea is an offshoot of the “global network” on HPU’s
Web site. Unfortunately this global network is limited to e-mails. Rai said
his site allows for more interaction between members, including
member profiles,
birthday reminders, private discussions, and private messaging.
In the first two weeks Rai said about 60 alumni joined. The
membership continues to grow. |
