Chaplain's Corner
with Reverend Dale Burke

The season of Thanksgiving is upon us. It sounds easy to be thankful, but if we’re going through a difficult time we may not feel particularly grateful. Yet, even in periods of hardship and uncertainty, we can thank our Creator for His abundant promises and unfailing goodness.

When we do express our gratitude, a wonderful change takes place within us. The writer of Psalm 92 knew this secret! He wrote: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.”

Henry W. Frost, veteran missionary to China, discovered this for himself. He said, “I had received sad news from home, and deep shadows had covered my soul. I prayed, but the darkness did not vanish. . . . Then I went to an inland station and saw on the wall of the mission home these words: Try Thanksgiving. I did, and in a moment every shadow was gone, not to return. Yes, the psalmist was right. ‘It is good to give thanks to the Lord.’”

If you are carrying an extra burden these days, try pausing and thanking the Lord for all the blessings that you do have. Who knows, you might begin to experience for yourself the secret of thanksgiving!
