600 graduate at winter commencement

by Kalamalama staff

HPU conferred associate, baccalaureate, and master degrees on nearly 600 students at the University’s 59th commencement ceremony Jan. 12 at the Waikiki Shell.

Dr. Bruce Anderson, president of Oceanic Institute, delivered the commencement speech and received the Fellow of the Pacific Award, HPU’s highest accolade.

Three valedictory speakers, chosen for their outstanding academic performance, also made presentations.

Daniel Wagner (B.S. in Biology), a native of Quito, Ecuador, represented the on-campus baccalaureate degree programs. Malia Smith (M.A. in Communication), who grew up in Hawai‘i, represented the graduate degree programs. And Senior Chief Petty Office Mark Brahler (B.S. in Computer Science) from Beach City, Ohio, represented the military degree programs.
