Honors societies open to qualified students

 

Alpha Chi National Honor Society recognizes scholarship and academic excellence of students currently enrolled in any undergraduate degree program at HPU who have completed a minimum of 30 college-level semester credits at HPU and have earned 60 college-level semester credits towards a baccalaureate degree, of which 12 credits are numbered 3000 or higher, with a 3.6 or higher GPA. (Membership fee $40.)

Alpha Delta Omega National Honor Society recognizes the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while balancing the competing interests of family, community, school, and work. Students must be enrolled in a bachelor of arts program majoring in human services or justice administration and must have completed three courses in their major with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (Membership fee $47.)

Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society recognizes the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence, while balancing the competing interests of family, community, school, and work. Students must be 27 years of age or older, enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, and must have completed 24 graded semester hours at HPU in an undergraduate degree program, at least 12 in liberal arts and sciences courses, with a 3.2 GPA. (Membership fee $30.)

Beta Beta Beta National Honor Society (Tri-Beta) recognizes scholarship and academic excellence of students in the biological sciences who are at least a second semester sophomore and have completed at least three biology lecture courses with a 3.0 GPA. (Membership fee $40.)

Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society recognizes junior or senior high academic achievers of good moral character enrolled full time in any undergraduate degree program who have completed at least two semesters at HPU with a minimum 3.4 GPA and who have earned an intercollegiate varsity letter at HPU. (Membership fee may be required upon acceptance.)

Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society recognizes scholastic excellence in the top 20 percent of business majors in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate students must have completed a minimum of 30 college-level semester credits at HPU and a minimum of 60 semester credits towards a business administration degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.4.
Currently registered graduate MBA or professional studies MA students must have earned at least 27 credits toward the degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 (Membership fee $50.)

Epsilon Delta Pi Honor Society recognizes and promotes academic excellence of undergraduate and graduate students majoring or specializing in computer science. Eligible candidates must have earned a minimum of 30 college-level semester credits, 15 at HPU, including 9 credits of 3000 level or above CSCI or IS courses numbered 6000 or above with a GPA of 3.4. (Membership fee $25.)

Lambda Pi Eta National Honor Society recognizes the academic achievement of students majoring in communication. Eligible HPU students must be enrolled full time in the BS in corporate communication program or a BA program in advertising, communication, journalism, public relations, speech, or visual communication. They must have completed 60 credits, 12 of which must be in communication courses, with a minimum HPU GPA of 3.0 and communication GPA of 3.25. (Membership fee $40.)

Mu Kappa Tau National Honor Society recognizes the academic achievement of undergraduate or graduate students majoring in marketing. Eligible undergraduates must be in the top 10 percent of their junior class or top 20 percent of their senior class and must have completed a minimum of 60 college-level semester credits towards a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Eligible graduates must have completed a minimum of 30 semester credits of graduate level courses with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. (Membership fee $35.)

Phi Alpha National Honor Society recognizes academic achievement by students in the social work program who have completed a minimum of three social work courses including SWRK 2000 or its equivalent and have a GPA of 3.25 for the required social work courses and a cumulative GPA of 3.0. (Membership fee $8 plus cost of honor cord.)

Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society recognizes and promotes academic scholarship and excellence of students majoring in history. Eligible candidates must have completed 12 history credits and have a class ranking in the highest 35 percent.

Phi Sigma Honor Society recognizes superior scholastic accomplishment by freshmen and sophomores in all fields of study. Eligible candidates can be enrolled in any baccalaureate degree program at HPU and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.65. (Membership fee $10.)

Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society recognizes and promotes excellence in the field of political science. Eligible HPU candidates may be enrolled in any baccalaureate program must have completed at least 6 credits in upper-division political science courses as well as POL SCI 1400 or equivalent introductory course, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
(Membership fee due on acceptance.)

Psi Chi National Honor Society recognizes excellence in scholarship and the advancement of psychology. Membership is limited to the top 35 percent of the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes. Members of Psi Chi are also extended membership into the American Psychology Association and Society. Eligible candidates may be enrolled in any baccalaureate program at HPU and must have completed 9 semester credits in psychology courses at HPU with a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
($60 membership fee includes honors cord.)

Sigma Delta Mu National Honor Society recognizes academic excellence of students in the study of Spanish and the literature and culture of Spanish-speaking peoples. Eligible students must be currently enrolled in the second semester (or higher) with GPA of 3.0 overall in Spanish courses. (Membership fee $15.)

Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society recognizes academic achievement of students in the nursing program. Applications are accepted during the fall semesters only.
Applicants must be juniors or seniors who have completed 50 percent of the required nursing courses with a 3.0 GPA or graduate students who have completed 12 credits at HPU with a 3.5 GPA. (Membership fee and dues on acceptance.)
