Playing with food: Foods for weight loss

After the holiday season each year, many of us come back a little soft around the midsection, thanks to mama’s good old, homestyle cooking. It’s probably also because without having to worry about fitting into that cute outfit for school the next day, we drink like sailors, eat like pigs, and lay in bed well into the afternoon. Whatever the case may be, it’s now April, and most of us are still carrying around the extra weight we gained in December.

The room was smoke-filled and hectic as the banging and bellowing of the emo band overpowered all other senses. Club Pauahi was packed inside and out with punk kids who probably heard about the same “art show” as I did. They moshed and flapped to the music like a school of black carp out of water. Serena Hashimoto said it best when she invited me: “There is going to be a bunch of 15-year-olds with a lot of hair product—that’s who frequents these shows.”

   

HPU's Miss Hawai'i USA competes nationally

Miss Hawai‘i USA Jennifer Fairbank, a graduate student in communication at HPU, left for Baltimore, Md., March 25 in hopes of bringing home the highly coveted title of Miss USA.
