HPU, WCC co-sponsor Relay for Life

“An awesome, fun-filled event with live music, food, games, health awareness activities, and heartfelt stories.” That’s how Campus Pipeling describes the windward walk/run event designed to raise funds to help the fight against cancer.

It’s jointly sponsored by the students of Hawai‘i Pacific University and the Alpha Lambda Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Windward Community College, and it happens April 29 and 30, overnight (7 p.m.- 7 a.m.) at Hale ‘Akoakoa Great Lawn on the WCC campus.

The event raises funds for the American Cancer Society for patient services, cancer education, advocacy, and research to find a cure! Most of the money is made through teams of 10 to 15 members, each of whom should raise at least $100 in sponsorship money.

The goal for the event is $50,000, so HPU, WCC, and community support is essential. Form a team, join a team, get a club or group of friends to form a team! Or pleadge money to a team member.

The last day to register a team was April 8. A $50 registration fee ensured that each team members gets t-shirts. Fundraising pledges and money will be collected up until the event.

Anyone interested in helping to organize the event can meet Wednesday nights, 8:30-9:30 p.m. at the Hale ‘Akoakoa building, room 107, on the Windward Community College campus.
