Philpott to replace Ellis

by Kalamalama staff

HPU President Chatt G. Wright announced last week that effective July 1, Dr. Jeffrey L. Philpott would become HPU’s new vice president, Student Support Services. Phillpott replaces Nancy Ellis, who will retire at the end of May. “He was selected,” said Wright, “from a field of more than 100 well-qualified applicants from around the world, and brings to HPU his considerable experience, expertise, and energy.”

Philpott is a 14-year veteran in the field of student affairs and has worked as dean of Students at Saint Xavier University in Chicago and most recently at Warren College, University of California-San Diego.

In his current position, Philpott is responsible for co-curricular programs and activities, multicultural enrichment, student government, clubs, and organizations, residential life, commuter student services, judicial affairs, student leadership programs, counseling and advisement, new student orientation, strategic planning and assessment, and budget management.

Additionally, Philpott has taught English courses as an adjunct professor. He joins HPU with expertise in program development, grant administration, needs and outcomes assessment, teaching and advising, staff training, and a variety of student services areas.

Philpott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts degree at Idaho State University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
