Mrs. Nancy Ellis, then vice president of HPU’s Student Support Services, delivered the commencement address. Ellis also received the Fellow of the Pacific Award, the University’s highest accolade, in recognition of, according to HPU President Chatt G. Wright, “her outstanding leadership, research, contribution to higher education, and for her continuing service and dedication to the community.” Ellis retired from her Student Support Services position on May 31. She will return to HPU in the fall as vice president of Community Relations.
Three valedictory speakers, chosen for their outstanding academic performance, also made presentations. Kelly Collins (B.S. in Pre Medical Studies), a native of Truckee, Calif., represented the on-campus baccalaureate degree programs; Han Nee Chong (M.S. in Communication), who grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, represented the graduate programs; and William Tischler (B.S. in Computer Science), who grew up at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, represented the military campus programs.

The Waikiki Shell was packed with HPU facutly and staff adn more than 600 graduates and their families for the University's 60th commencement ceremony on May 18.
