“Dr. Agrusa is a passionate teacher who always entertains and motivates his students to learn,” said TIM junior, Karin Wanscher. “He has an incredibly positive and energetic attitude when working with students.”

“ His enthusiasm is commendable. He genuinely cares about his students, and it shows,” added TIM director, Wendy Lam. “His support of students extends beyond the classroom. He motivates them to take responsibility of their own learning and makes the process meaningful and fun.”

Agrusa has more than 20 years of experience in the hotel, hospitality, and restaurant industry. Prior to joining HPU, he served as managing partner of Mirage United Hotels in Italy and general manager of Lavaca Bay Restaurant in Texas. A member of the National Tourism Foundation Advisory Council, Agrusa has contributed to numerous publications and has presented at conferences around the world.
He has held teaching positions at Texas A&M University, University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Louisiana, and the University of Hawai‘i.

In addition to teaching, Agrusa serves on the Board of Directors for the Travel and Tourism Research Association’s Hawai‘i Chapter. He also holds various positions at the Asia Pacific Tourism Association, Journal of Teaching in Travel and Tourism, International Journal of Tourism Sciences, Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, Annals of Tourism, and the Journal of Vacation Marketing.
Agrusa represented HPU at the 11th Annual Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) Conference in Goyang, Korea, July 7-10, presenting two collaborative research papers: “Assessing Key Success Factors for Online Travel Agencies” with Dr. Yooncheong Cho, assistant professor of marketing, and with computer instructor Roy Henkel and TIM instructor Wendy Coats, “Perceptions of International Visitors on Visiting a Southeast Asian Destination as a Tourist.”
