Sponsored by HPU Athletics and the United States Tennis Associations (USTA), the free event is open to students of all tennis abilities, according to Donna Ching, who represents the USTA’s Hawai‘i Pacific Section.

Loaner raquets will be provided, Ching said, but students should wear their own tennis shoes.
The event introduces Hawai‘i’s inaugural Team Tennis on campus program to HPU, Ching said and promotes the growth of recreational tennis. The coed league is similar to adult team tennis, but only two women and two men are required to make a team. Each round-robin match features men’s and women’s singles and doubles and one mixed doubles match.

Hawai‘i’s championship team will advance to the 2006 USA Team Tennis National Campus Championships, in April at the University of Texas in Austin. The last championship involved 48 teams from 47 schools.
