By Flavia Brakling, Sports editor

Martin led HPU in three wins with a total of 40 kills, 16 digs, four aces, and six blocks. She is currently 9th on the NCAA Division II volleyball rankings for hitting percentage with 0.437.

In her third season at HPU, Martin has broken the records for kill percentage and for single-season blocks. She said she loves being part of the volleyball program and is glad to give back to the University.

“ Without the help from the team and my coaches, I would not be the player I am today. They make me improve every practice.”

Martin, originally from Curitiba, Brazil, said she felt a “love at first sight” for Hawai‘i.
“ Here I feel at home, thanks to the people who have been helping me such as Reydan Ahuna, or ‘mommy,’” she added, referring to coach Tita Ahuna’s mother. “She does everything she can to make sure the volleyball players are happy. There is no way to feel homesick when she is around.”
