Associate Professor of accounting and finance
Dr. John (Jack) P. Karbens, Ed.D., has been nominated for the
2006 American Institute of CPAs Distinguished Achievement in
Accounting Education Award. The institute grants the award

Corner
My favorite story from the recently completed
2006 Winter Olympic Games in Italy concerns American speed
skater Joey Cheek. Not only is he an excellent skater, but
he has a heart as big as a Torino pizza. Joey won gold and
silver medals in skating and a bonus prize of $40,000. Instead
of buying a new Beamer, he donated the entire prize to an organization
called Right to Play, a charity that provides playing opportunities
for disadvantaged children in the Sudan and other developing
