On May 5 we rejoin Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt for the next covert operation, Mission Impossible 3. Ving Rhames also return as Luther Stickell in the newest installment of the sci-fi action thriller with new cast members Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), and Michelle Monagham (North Country). Will Hunt and Stickell be able to take on new villains and save the world at the same time? Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to wait patiently until the box office release.

When a curator at the famous Paris museum, the Louvre, is found murdered, a series of clues lead symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu to uncover a secret society that in thousands of years has killed to protect itself. May 19 brings the highly anticipated Dan Brown novel, The Da Vinci Code, to the big screen. Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou (A Very Long Engagement) are Langdon and Neveu on a frantic race through the streets of Paris to uncover an ancient puzzle that goes back even before the time of Da Vinci himself. Ian McKellen (X-Men), Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2), and Paul Bettany (Wimbledon) co-star alongside Hanks and Tautou. McKellen plays Sir Leigh Teabing, a wealthy British art historian whose life’s passion is the Holy Grail. Molina takes the part of Bishop Manuel Aringarosa, the power hungry president of Opus Dei. Bettany’s character, albino Opus Dei monk Silas, drives the eeriness of the movie whose mantra is pain is good.
Ian McKellen also appears in X-Men 3:The Last Stand, which answers the questions is there a cure for the mutant gene and who will be the first to make the move to the human world? Tension between mutants and humans is heightened when a sudden death threatens to trigger war. Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Rebecca Romijn, and Anna Paquin all return as our favorite superhero team. The final chapter for Professor Xavier’s school for the gifted welcomes newcomer Kelsey Grammer to the all-star cast. It is rumored that Rouge (Paquin) will attempt to be the first mutant to move to the human world, but fans must wait until May 26.

The Man of Steel returns to Earth and the big screen after a hiatus in Superman Returns on June 30, when Clark Kent, played by Brandon Routh (Karla), finds the love of his life, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Kevin Spacy becomes Superman’s arch nemesis, Lex Luther, and Kate Bosworth portrays the brainy and beautiful Lane.

Captain Jack Sparrow is back and is in serious debt. As Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann plan to wed, Sparrow must pay back Davey Jones to avoid eternal damnation as one of Jones’s sea phantoms of the underworld. Can Jack Sparrow keep his soul and attend the wedding as well? Johnny Depp returns alongside Orlando Bloom (Turner) and Keira Knightly (Swann) in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on July 7.

The box office should thrive this movie season, especially in May when three out of five movies mentioned are released within a week of each other. These five are only the tip of the iceberg this summer, so butter your popcorn and enjoy the shows.
