WebCT 6.0 comes
to campus
by Tonya Bauman, Distance Education Specialist
On July 6th HPU will upgrade WebCT to Campus Edition 6.0 (CE
6). WebCT is used to deliver the majority of our online and
Web-enhanced courses.
CE 6.0 will look different from the current version. All the
tools that you used to find on the home page are now on the
left vertical menu and look like buttons rather than links.
You might think, so what? So, when your instructor tells you
in the syllabus that you have to take a quiz or submit your
homework, just go to the left vertical bar to find those tools.
There are new features available for instructors to make their classes more effective
and interactive:
CE 6.0 provides new Learning Modules which makes it easier for instructors to
present materials in an engaging, more interactive manner. You will be able to
follow the learning path in sequence established by the instructor.
The Announcements tool lets instructors deliver important information to you
in the form of a pop-up, hard to miss window, which appears automatically as
soon as you log into a course.
CE 6.0 combines the Chat room with a Whiteboard, so that you can send your text
message along with the free-hand drawings or previously saved images.
With the addition of PeopleLinks, you can click on a student or faculty member’s
name anywhere it appears in a course and send an e-mail to that person, making
it easier for you to communicate with each other and with instructors.
The Distance Education Center will be conducting orientation sessions to explain
the new features to students and faculty, and specific hands-on workshops for
the faculty on how to use course tools more effectively. Workshops will be scheduled
starting in May.
Instructors should visit the WebCT CE 6 informational page via Campus Pipeline
under the Academic Administration tab, bottom right corner for up-to-date information.
Students should visit the WebCT CE 6 informational page via Campus Pipeline under
the Resources tab, bottom left corner or the HPU A-Z Channel for up-to-date information
and the schedule of orientation sessions.
